Thailand wishes to associate with the ASPAG statement.

My delegation wishes to thank the Office for the documents prepared.

We recognize that the formalization of the informal economy specified as the area of critical importance, the ACI 6, is an area of critical importance for my country, as well.

Thailand recognizes that the informal economy employment plays a distinct role to support the labour market around the world, and the people working in this sector are vulnerable and often lack of social protection. Therefore, the transition to the formal economy is a crucial role for inclusive, social and economic development.

We support the effort of the Office to encourage the national constituents to work together to give full effect to the formalization of the informal economy in pursuing the threefold objectives of the Recommendation No. 204.

My country, like other Members, has concerted efforts, to formalize the employment in informal economy. We have been taking several actions, such as, the establishment of the National Committee on the Management of Informal Workers, composing of all stakeholders, to formulate policies and strategies, monitor and follow up the actions taken by line agencies. Furthermore, many concrete measures have also been made to extend the protection, rights and benefits to informal workers, including the enforcement of the Homeworkers Act of 2010, and the extension of social protection coverage under the Section 40 of the Social Security Act of 1990, along with many tangible action plans.

In this connection, to fulfill the effort of Member states, the Office should support them and respond their needs by taking into account their national circumstances. My delegation is of view that the four interrelated components mentioned in paragraph 14, proposed as the follow up strategy for action, would be able to support the national constituents’ actions in facilitating the transition to the formal economy.

Finally, my delegation supports the points of decisions of paragraph 50 of the document GB.325/POL/1/2.
